Nigo - Ape Sounds
Tokyo-based Nigo is about to embark on conquering the indie music scene in North America with his new Mo Wax release, Ape Sounds. Not as much a musician on Ape Sounds, Nigo is more of a conductor bringing together eclectic musicians to meld into one. Similar to another Mo Wax release, U.N.K.L.E., Nigo extends on that theme and brings together such diverse talents as Ben Lee, Cornelius, Tony Vegas of the Scratch Perverts, Money Mark, as well as label head James Lavelle. Nigo combines elements of hip-hop, dub, indie rock electronica and the best parts of pop to come with this very creative mix. He is a little more down to earth than Beck but definitely in the same vein. The album highlight has to be Ben Lee's vocals on "Free diving". A nice album but who came up with the shitty packaging. At least they could have laminated the paper. My copy ripped upon the first opening.
