Come on, you cannot fail to like this. I mean seriously. Such an infectious, happy, up-beat, put-a-smile-on-your-face song is just too likeable to be missed. I admit it is never going to win any awards for musical excellence, but it is catchy bubblegum pop at its absolute finest. Indeed, it remained as number on in the UK for over nine weeks when it was released, and that is no mean feat back in those days when the single was king and there was plenty of competition. This still has the power to bring a smile to my face and get my foot tapping whenever I hear its almost forty-year old melody.
There are a lot of bands these days who could learn from this. This is how you make fun music. Less of that morose, down-in-the-dumps nonensese. And what is more fun is knowing that Damon Albarn, for all his posturing, was not the first to invent a band of purely cartoon characters.
