Hailing from the Dallas/Fort Worth area is a new talent "H-Dub", also known as Smoke Signals. Armed with a natural understanding for rhythms and a strong American-Indian character, the future is bright for this young up and coming talent.
Mincing Hip Hop and Rap, all six-tracks have a healthy helping of simplistic beats and hooks topped with an intellectual rhyme vocabulary. Though there are times where the lyrical content can be cheesy, and even the beats or synth are remedial.
That being said, it's difficult to ignore memorable hooks, such as track four "I Got Live On It". Cocky and chalk full of synchronicity, the basics are here. Track five, "Money Makes The World Go Round" has an engaging structure and chorus, but something tells me he's capable of stories with a little more impacting message.
I wouldn't go as far to say this is radio ready, as the mixing is intermediate at-best, and of course, as most up and coming artists, it's pre-production. Disregarding redundant or repetitive hooks -cause Rap has never been my thing-, and H-dub has himself a terrific Hip-Hop cornerstone to build on. While most songs carry an upbeat atmosphere blending both Rap and Hip-Hop, I'd love to hear this guy mature towards a Hip-Hop focus, much like that of the Ghetto Boys. In the meantime, these guys have earned an unsolicited listen for any new releases.
