Motorcade - The Automatic Window
Motorcade is a softly spoken band. They don’t hammer in their lyrics. Quite the contrary, they actually lull you into believing you. Imagine the vocals of Echo and the Bunnymen’s Ian McCulloch singing for Radiohead although the music is a little more arranged than Radiohead, you kind of get the idea. The music is lush and well orchestrated and Mark Lee’s vocals are fantastic. From what I can tell, Motorcade is a only a two person band with guest musicians filling in the gaps. I put on The Automatic Window and forgot about it the first time. Before I knew it the album was over. Second time around I payed closer attention and was totally drawn in to a different level. This is the way music is meant to be enjoyed, sitting down with the album cover reading along with the lyrics. With the process, an album tends to stay with you for a much longer period of time. I can see Motorcade still in my CD player 6 months down the road. Mark Lee’s vocals are the key. They may be a little retro but it still sounds unique to me.
