It has come to my attention that the Mother Hips have been around for quite, and on a major label too, but this is their first album for Future Farmer. And what an album it is. This is really a jangle pop masterpiece in all its glory. Apparently a departure from their previous more rootsy albums, Green Hills of Earth show some very masterful pop songwriting by vocalist Tim Bluhm. Some of the highlights here are “Channel Island Girl with Tim’s beautiful falsetto and the superb “Singing Seems To Ease Me. The grand style of pop here is the kind of stuff that you get hooked into on the first listen and can’t help but hitting the play button over and over. If you are a fan of great pop rock like Teenage Fanclub and Matthew Sweet, you best be checking out the Mother Hips. They have really taken a turn for the better and had they made this move when they were still affiliated with Warner they would most likely have had a hit. Cleverest song title goes to “Sarah Bellum.
