Any A&R guy will tell you: it's hard to bring home the gold and platinum with white rappers. The exceptions to rule are usually Eminem, The Beastie Boys, Haystacks, Everlast, Aesop Rock, Brother Ali, Sage Francis, El-P, and, once upon a time, Vanilla Ice. Well, John Gillette may just be ready to add his name to their ranks.
Gillette is a newcomer to the game but he brings his first release, All Bad to the table and serves up one solid track after the other. JG's flow and style is a feast for hungry ears. He's a deft MC as well as very a versatile singer. Lending a hand on most of the tracks is the LA production team of Bruce Waynne and DJ Swift, aka: The Midi Mafia.
The apex of All Bad is the song Party of the Year. It's has an up tempo rhythm, catchy lyrics and a clever, killer hook. Other highlights include Raise the Bar, Battery, and the mid tempo title track, All Bad. John's music is more about having a good time than the all too common pedestrian rapper fare of guns, gangsters, bitches and 'ho's.
So if you're looking for a new release that's right for turning the heat up with the one you love or getting your friends up on the dance floor at a party or a club then All Bad is your bag. It's being released on November 30th, 2010. Give it a go. You just never know, but I'll wager that Gillette is a safe bet and on the money.
