I've attempted reviewing these guys for their last few releases. Truth be told, raised not to say anything if I didn't have anything nice to say at all, don't get me wrong as a seasoned music reviewer, I'll rip on a recording from time to time. But Alesana has always teased me. Hard Core Emo with too much whine, I'd just rather pass on. The Emptiness being their fourth major release, old news (Jan. 2010) or not, it was time, they had their true chance.

While the entire record wreaks of terrible whino (Emo with nose-pinched vocals), it's of course used in contrast of the rest of this
very aggressive Hardcore recording. Call me a non-credible critic, but truly, there's just not one track that sticks out to the everyday music listener. Though "Hymn For The Shameless" seems to have a
bit more careful tracking then the previous four tracks, fading outro and all, I'm still having a problem discerning its rhythm and hooks from
the rest of recording.

I just can't continue to review this record with a clear conscious. I enjoy the melodies, and dig the hardcore vocals at times, but the softer side of their vocals literally turn me away from the desire to listen to new music.
