Phil Elvrum, aka Microphones, although not unique in nature, has mastered the art of home recordings. Although not all necessarily recorded at home, I think most of it was done at Dub Narcotic studios, it still manages to portray the personal note that solo recording artists acheive. Phil has manage to master the art of tape loops with attaining almost an etheral feel of a pop album. The way tracks are held together with just a fuzzy rythmic guitar is truly amazing. Calvin Johnson of Dub Narcotic Sound Systems lends vocals as well as a few others. For people interested in light gentle experimental pop the Microphones should do more than satisfy.
