Finally, a much needed US release from one of celtic's newest and brightest bands, Shooglenifty. If you have not yet heard any of their material you must seek out some of their past albums. Solar Shears sees the band with a distribution deal with Alison Brown's Compass Records, a fitting home for this new style of celtic music. What Shooglenifty does is take traditional Scottish and mix it up with all sorts of beats and samples to create what sometimes equals a big rave with a fiddle. It has to be heard to be appreciated though. Tracks like "Delighted" really leave no room for error in the amazing fiddle routine while some of the other tracks are a little more laid back. Shooglenifty may appeal a bit more towards the person looking for a bit of a change rather than the folk purist.
