Be it a chance to make a boat load of money off of other peoples songs (no royalties whatsoever) or just a devotion to traditional tracks Dave Alvin's Public Domain is a perfect example of how to make other peoples songs your own. These songs haven't seen this much energy in their entire lives. Dave Alvin, of the legendary Blasters fame, has taken his path a little more towards the country side of things with the last couple of albums especially this one here. Seemingly Dave knows exactly what the writer of each song was thinking and manages to put in the right emotional overtones. The integrity and musical ability Alvin shows in the arrangements here is very intriguing and makes you feel that he did a lot of research on the chosen songs contained within.
