Toronto's own Mean Red Spiders are a bit of a throwback to the early Nineties shoegazing bands. Not saying that they aren't doing anything original because this is some of the most beautiful pop I have heard in a long time. It seemed like everyone ran away from the fuzzy slow sounds of shoegazing and never looked back. It's my belief that this sound was never utilized to it's fullest. MRS's second effort takes you to the next level and it almost seems like a transcendence as the music contained is close to heavenly. The samples used are very sparse but well done and singer Lisa Nighsvander's vocals shine through the cacophonous swirling sounds her band makes. In a world of contrived alterna-pop this gem really shines as something different.
