Four Tet - Pause
Kieran Hebden is Four Tet. Four Tet is electronic music that Kieran makes in his bedroom. It is good music. Hebden is from the post-rock outfit entitled Fridge, who had a major label deal with Polygram affiliate Go Beat and more recently back to the indies with Temporary Residence, and in his spare time he would collect samples and beats in his England flat. When he put them all into his computer and pieced them together he created some very original and creative songs as Four Tet. Four Tet actually caught the attention of Pole and the two put out an EP entitled Four Tet vs Pole. Pause is the second full-length release by Kieran under the Four Tet moniker and his finest to date. The music you can expect to hear on Pause is a bit of a cut and paste senario but not to the extreme as someone like DJ Shadow. No, Four Tet is more minimalistic and along the lines of Boards of Canada with sparse loops and drums weaving their way through the 11 tracks. It is one of those albums that grow on you with each listen and people around start to perk up their ears as they wonder, “Who is that? Four Tet is more than just a bedroom project (even though that’s where most of it is done). Pause proves that all you need for good electronica music is a computer and a good sense of sophisticated sampling.
