Portland has always been an open path for music, make what you like, and if it's catchy it will peak. Miriams Well is one of those that will sort of blank stare into almost all walks of genre.
Track five "War No More" has a real funk and brass to it, perhaps a memorable jam mincing several product plans of music, quite entertaining. Ms. Miriam shows off her range, "Love is a demonstration, all over the land, you got brother killing brother". As the chorus builds the brass becomes the body and echo that seats nicely. While you have the brass out, how bout a Sax-o-phone solo? Then of course, the title track and lead song here is "Indians and Clowns". Like Melissa Etheridge meets the country cockiness of maybe Bonnie Rait or PJ Harvey, this track has a down home folk that can't be ignored. Crisp guitar strokes and respectable production, this song has a bit of marketability.
Tracks like "Waiting On A Plane" have a Country spirt with Alt/Metal/Blues backbone, while "Diamonds" is more a melody machine, with full bodied sounds an a rhythm heart. Sort of like the musical embodiement of Tesla, Miriam has a raw talent with her pitch at times to make this her own. Most commonly referred to as Mir, Miriam and her aptly titled well of instrumentation have an obvious knack for high pitched energy in music.
The question is... can that equate into a radio hit splash or soundtrack score? For now, they'll probably ride the waves of very enjoyable live rock, but don't be surprised if these soul bearing rockers ever pinch your ear drums on some pop station near you.
