Congratulations is an album, which doesn't reach out and grab you on first listen the way the debut does.
But it is a solid outing, so the applause at the end of the title track is well deserved.
"Flash Delirium" has a strange ending, but in the midst of lyrics which include talk about hope and change it is a catchy song.
This album conjures up sounds of 70s art rock. Witness the track, "Brian Eno."
Eerie is a good word to describe this album as evident on a number of tracks with "Song for Dan Treacy," a good example.
"Siberian Breaks" is a song, which is tempting to dismiss, but coming back to it even at more than 12:00, it holds interest.
"Someone's Missing" has vocals from Andrew VanWyngarden, which sound more like what was on Orackular Spectacular
Every song on here has its moments even the instrumental "Lady Da Da's Nightmare.'' I like the band throwing in an instrumental. When you consider how effective tracks on albums by the Who, Steely Dan and Pink Floyd could be without vocals, MGMT is in good company.
I wish there were songs as catchy as the previous album''s "Time to Pretend" or "Kids," but there is ample evidence the band can continue to make its mark.
