RecommendCanada’s answer to America’s Beck, Mayor McCA is now on his third solo CD. This time around on Me is He Mayor McCA shows much improvement over Welcome to McCA Land. Smith is still playing almost all the instruments on Me is He with a bit of help from some friends. His songwriting is maturing nicely and for being just one man, he is able to play in loads of different styles. The album doesn’t tire at all; in fact it gets more interesting with every listen. Some of the tracks are gentle lullabies such as “Beautiful Girl� and then he gets noisy on some songs like “I’m Getting Fat� which is more along the lines of garage punk. For a literal one man band, McCA is totally talented and will not be thought of as a novelty act for much longer. Its albums like this that make for a great career.
