Mark D - The Silent Treatment
Do you remember Mark D? He spent a few years influential punk label Alchemy and then after producing a few Melvins albums (as well as Neurosis and RKL) he went on to be their bass player for what could be called the highlight of their career (I’m a bit partial to their newer material). If your interested you will find him on Stoner Witch, Stag and Honky. As for The Silent Treatment, I absolutely hated this album when I gave it my first listen. So much, in fact, that I had a hard time giving it a second chance. It is a weird and strange album that is very, very psychedelic. Upon further investigation the charm started to become apparent. Mark has no problem going from abrasive to very soothing, which is a blessing with this sort of psychedelic music. Heavy crunchy sounds are mixed with catchy pop sounds. The production and effects are very cool too. Listen on headphones for the full effect.
