John Mann - Acoustic Kitty
While most Canadians will recognize the band Spirit of the West, there are few outside of Canada who have been exposed to this folk-rock band. John Mann is the leader of the band and has just recently stepped out on his own with Acoustic Kitty. This is his first solo album and Spirit of the West fans will be happy to know that it really isn’t a far cry from what John did with the band. Acoustic Kitty is a little more personal but with his voice as instantly recognizable as it is, it’s hard for him to stray too far. One thing that is missing on this disc is the celtic sound that Spirit of the West was able to do so well. Mann takes time to reflect on a more personal side of songwriting and shows that he is not afraid to reveal his inner feelings. The arrangements are very well thought out and well orchestrated by producer Michael Phillip Wojewoda (Barenaked Ladies, Rheostatics). John Mann is a true songwriter as proven by the talent he exhudes from Acoustic Kitty.
