Okay right off the bat I am going to admit that I've never really had much time to devote to Minus The Bear in the past. I'm not sure why, but they've just never made it onto my radar for long enough to pay attention.
Imagine my pleasant surprise then when I finally had the chance to give their brand spankin' new album Omni a spin.
Almost from the get go the opening track "My Time" demanded my attention. From that instantly gripping moment of synth rock, the album refused to let go.
"Summer Angel" is one of the most danceable (though not dance) indie rock songs of the year so far. The slight funk of "The Thief" settles into an irresistible groove. The Seattle-based band channels a '70s AM rock vibe on the smooth "Into the Mirror". Even the harder rock edge of "Secret Country" creates an atmosphere that compels you to move.
Of course the album is not perfect. Very few are. In this case it's droning blips and bloops of "Animal Backwards" that spoil the fun.
On the whole though, Omni, is one of the most vibrant and dynamic indie rock records I've heard so far this year.

while it is not my favorite album from them, they are one of my favorite bands and this album is a fine addition to the collection. Check it out if you like creative and interesting guitar rifts.
