Luna - Romantica
I’ve had the pleasure of listening to Luna’s latest since late January and I just recently received a final finished copy. I’m even amazed at how much better this mastered version sounds. Dean Wareham and crew have definitely enjoyed the studio time for Romantica. The music is bright and cheery in the trademarked Luna fashion. After going through the depressing process of being dropped from a major label, Luna has picked up the pieces and refocused on their new material. They seem to be quite at home on Jetset records, which I’m sure was more than happy to issue Romantica. The songwriting that Luna puts forth is some of their best work to date. This is very rare considering how many albums they have had out. They don’t change the formula much but for some reason it sounds fresher and more alive. It could be that they are living without the restrictions that major labels seem to give their artists or it could be that Dean Wareham is living life to the fullest. The whole band is tight here and Dean and Britta’s vocals are sounding at their best. I mean Dean pulls off rhyming Singapore Noodles with Oodles and Oodles. Sound tasty? What about “I’m in a jam/your in a pickle/we’re in a stew? Now that your mouth is watering I must tell you that like other Luna albums Romantica demands repeated listens. Grab a “Black Champagne and enjoy.
