Swedish Hillbilly/Western Swing with some bluegrass tossed in? Bring it on! Fiddler Ralf Fredblad and company must have spent many a dark frigid Nordic night listening to the heart and soul of Appalachia. The Original Rockridge Brothers bang out some of the most authentic Hillbilly you'll hear, without irony or any suspicious modern trappings. "Rockridge Hollerin'" is pure gold.
The instrumental "Chinquapin Hunting" and the brooding "Lazy John" are killer songs, though "Sandy Boys" may be the best of the bunch. But really there are no bad tracks, and nothing to comment on. This is pure mountain music, delviered with chops, heart, and a deep understanding of the soul that has always gone into the creation of such music. The harmonies are rich and sure, the guitar keeps up with the fiddle and together they create an upbeat groove that never wavers; what more do you want?
"Rockridge Hollerin'" is a gem that, if you like this genre, you need. The Original Rockridge Brothers, straight outta Stockholm, are the real deal.
