How do you add to a very impressive debut album like Karsh Kale’s Realize? Bring in the remixers, of course. Or that would be Six Degrees answer to every debut album they have released like Belbel Gilberto and Dzihan and Kamien. Now Karsh Kale gets the treatment and does it ever sound impressive. Realize was a fusion of South Asian traditional music and electronica (if you haven’t figured out Six Degrees yet, they specialize in this sort of thing). And would work on such a project? Kale chose some of his friends and peers to rework his material in exchange for him doing remix work for them. First up is the legendary Bill Laswell taking on a spastic version of “Empty Hands and doing a great job. DJ Spooky takes on “One Step Beyond, India’s own MIDIval PunditZ try their hand at “Home, and labelmate Banco de Gaia remixes “Distance. There are a bunch more here including some of Karsh’s own remixes. This isn’t a world beat album, it’s much more than that.
