Chokeules - Hypergraphia
Hip Hop has dug it's grave, and Rap has had it's influence on that death. What does a music listener do when it's caught between a rock and a hard place? Chokeules debut release, Hypergraphia is produced by Swedish rapper Timbuktu. While the album is chock full of upbeat hooks and rhymes, after two full spins, its without a standout track.
Okay, truthfully... there is a track called "Standout" and its as Atmosphere as Chokeules could possibly be. Aggressive and funky with it's delivery, the lyrical content has little to no merit, leaving you salivating for something more. Sure, the hook is hot, and even his vocal transitions and formats have a future in the indie music world, but nothing about this track actually 'stands out'.
The production, clarity and overall vibe of this release is respectable, and regardless of the low-level guest appearances that bring a refreshing feel, there's just no reference point on this release to really push you towards. Perhaps, a third and fourth time is necessary to really grasp, but to this point, I've not heard anything worthy of a third or fourth spin.
Yeah, Chokeules says it best on "Not enough"...'Too many emcee's, not enough, skills'. A rapper and an artist, Chokeules has an enjoyable flow, but there just does not seem to be any content worth coming back for a third spin.

First, the album is dope. His lyrical content is amazing. There are quite a few songs that make your head bob, and all of them are worth a 5th-60th listen. You failed to mention my favourite song 'Strong Bros', or what about the first song called 'Life Twice'. Also, Timbuktu is not the Swedish rapper. He's a dude that comes from London Ontario in a group, with Choke, called Toolshed. Get your facts straight, reviewer.
