Three letters make one word to sum up this album W_O_W! There's an upside and a downside to this album. The upside is that it sounds like Layne (RIP) never left the band. I would go so far to say that on this album he's actually singing from the grave. That was my first thought.
Then reality set in, Layne is gone. That's a major bummer. The band we all thought was AIC was actually: Jerry Cantrell.
That erie voice that haunts alice in chains: Jerry Cantrell. The writing on all the previous albums as well as most of this one: Jerry Cantrell. The talent that drives the band: Jerry Cantrell. All secrets known...Jerry Cantrell had more of an influence musically over AIC than most people thought.
I bought this album because I bought both of Jerry Cantrell's solo albums and enjoyed each of them thoroughly. I wasn't sure that all the songs would sound like "Check my brain", which got a lot of radio play.
I like Jerry Cantrell. This was obviously a healing writing effort, and it will be interesting to see what else comes out under AIC. This album is proof that a front man doesn't always make the band.
