For the follow-up to Tomoyuki Tanaka’s second Fantastic Plastic Machine – Luxury, he has turned away from the kitsch side of things and focused more on shaking your rump. There is still a load of cool samples thrown in here but you will be surprised at how straight forward Tomoyuki hits the dancefloor. Beautiful starts off with a straight-laced house track entitled “Beautiful Days which is a fabulous duet as well. Fantastic Plastic Machine seems to have garnered an appreciation for R&B and Soul along the way because there is a track called “Love Is Psychedelic that is a dead ringer for an Isaac Hayes track. In order to fully realize the R&B connection, Tanaka headed over to Philadelphia and recorded in one of the most legendary studios there as well as got some of the original studio musicians that played with the O’Jays and the Village People. Moving more away from the lounge feel of previous albums (its still there only not as prevalent) Tanaka is opening up and trying new things. Fantastic Plastic Machine has succeeded in creating a disc not only for moving on the dance floor but doing everything you could imagine to.
