Kilowatthours really grabbed me with their debut album, Strain of Positive Thinking. With the release of The Bright Side and a bit of a line up change Kilowatthours had time to revisit what they wanted to do. While not a drastic change on The Bright Side, the band does manage to change a little bit a become even more moody and intimate. Many of the songs don’t even have any vocals and the ones that do a very subtle and mixed down low. Obviously Kilowatthours wanted to focus on the overall sound of the music as opposed to vocals and lyrics. They still have that emo flavor to them but they have gone beyond that and into the post-rock territory. Most of the songs can’t even be considered rock with the mellow loping beats that barely exist. The band has a charm all unto themselves though that come through on tracks like “Perfect Fool, the epic album closer and one of the loudest songs on the Bright Side. This is a very talented band that has yet to reach it’s full stride.
