I have heard Damien be refered to as an Urban Folk Singer. I would tend to stick more with a singer / songwriter type monicker. His style is that of a very mellow rock singer but every song entails quite an extensive story (which could garner him the folk title). In the bedroom recording style, much like Elliott Smith, Damien adds to his previous Sub Pop album, Rehearsals for Departure, more of the same only somehow it feels even more personal this time around. The spooky "Tonight I Will Retire" with it's barely there piano creeping along with steady tick and tom beat provided by Pedro The Lion's David Bazan. Almost all the songs are fully functional on the minimal amount of instruments and Damien's almost wisper. The only big exception is a track entitled "Paxil" which actually possesses some anger. I think Jurado is one artist that is appreciated most late at night when you are all alone. One can't thank Sunny Day Real Estate frontman Jeremy Enigk enough for bring Jurado to the attention of Sub Pop.
