Picking up where Welsh noise-rockers Mclusky left off, Birmingham's incendiary live sons unleashed their first mini-album on Tigertrap records back in 2007. It's difficult to ignore the striking resemblance to classic album mclusky Do Dallas, but this is Dallas squeezed, compressed and all over in seventeen minutes. While this does seem a disappointingly short amount of time to spend with such an exhilarating live band, the scant running time is still enough to leave a lasting impression.
There's violent crunching bass work that permeates the album, and when combined with the constant abuse of the guitar it becomes an all out aural assault. The band gives you about eight second to prepare yourself before the noise starts and it just doesn't stop. It's fast, loud and brash; but because of this rough approach the overdriven distorted instruments sometimes smother the lyrics, which is a shame as they are pure agitated genius. Whether they are insulting the more fashion conscious Indie music fans that fill their gigs, or discussing Right Said Fred; the lyrics are as self aware and as caustic as the music behind it. Unfortunately like most bands that subscribe to the loud, fast and incoherent school of rock this over reliance on the wall of garage sound smothers their lyrical intent. That being said though, it's refreshing to hear an album where the anger doesn't sound feigned in. The instrumentation and intelligently vitriolic lyrics you can make out will stick in your head long after the ringing has gone; however it goes by so fast you might not notice it's happened.
