The latest release from New Jersey's The Number 12 Looks Like You, Worse Than Alone, was a very quick and diferent follow up to 2007's Mongrel. Following the departure of Jamie McIlroy, and guitarist Alex Pareja getting a new 7 string, the five piece entered the studio to release what will be their final record for Eyeball Records. A brilliant composition, the band has quickly shown a new side to their prowess. The album opens with the heavy- bass, more metal edged "Glory Kingdom." "The Garden's All Nighter's," one of the album's best songs, is an epic almost ballad about their home state that only they can bring us in this odd side of metal. Towards the end of the CD, between the songs "Retort, Rebuild, Remind" and "The League of Endangered Oddities," drummer Jon Karel shows his drum talent in a ridiculous drum solo. The solo transitions into a song reminiscesnt of a mature side of emo shown in the song "Civeta Dei" from the band's debut. The album even has an electronica bridge, transitioning to the final song, "I'll make my own hours," an epic ending, wrapping of the various genre's they've managed to bring to the mix. This CD is a very good listen, and recommended to almost anyone who appreciate good metal. With the recent departure of vocalist Justin Pedrick, who knows what they have in store for their next release.
