Passenger Action was a band that I almost dismissed after just one listen to their self-titled debut album. But luckily I gave it a second and third go and I found myself strangely drawn to their music. The band has emerged from the ashes of seminal punk band Choke, Clay Shea and Shawn Moncreiff recruited a couple of other Canadian musicians to round out the new band, Passenger Action.
Now their debut is far from perfect but it does offer something. It sure has some strong references to Choke but the next step. I've never been a huge fan of Choke but I respected where they were coming from and that they were different that a gamut of bands out there. Passenger Action is the same. I don't find myself enamored by their talent and yet their sound and musicianship is there. You can hear nods of bands like Thursday with a little more technicality in the writing. I do really like Moncrieff's vocals.
Why am I not mentioning any particular song? Because after the third or fourth listen things start to sound the same. There are highlights on some of the songs but really, this album works good as a whole. If you've enjoyed Choke or even Moneen for that matter, then you'll relish in Passenger Action.
