Ping Trace has made a huge first impression on me. Now with regards to downtempo electronica there really isn't a whole lot of room for experimentation. It's one of those areas where if it's done well, it's worth listening to. If it's done mediocre then no one needs to listen to it. Ping Trace has provided us with a very well done EP, Traces. It melds downtempo and dub in such a professional way that you'd think this duo has been around for decades. The female vocals (I'm sorry I can't provide the girls name) are perfect for this music. The production is first-rate too. The songs just sort of fade into your head, providing the perfect late-night cocktail. If you like Thievery Corporation or Nightmares On Wax then save some room for Ping Trace.
Sadly, this EP is only 5 songs, 17 minutes in length. It comes highly recommended though.
