Vajra was formed by composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist, Annamaria Pinna during her self imposed exile in India. The child of a former monk, and a school teacher, Annamaria was encouraged to learn about the world around her and to question her assumptions. Fueled by her insatiable curiosity of life, death and experience, Annamaria believes that there is divinity in creativity. She began playing violin at age 6 and flute at age 9. She wrote her first lyrics at age 10, and went on to study music theory at Juilliard.

Annamaria has a neurological condition called synesthesia, where she attaches color and shapes to sound.

The debut album,‘Pleroma' will be released in 2012. Pleroma explores paradoxes (east vs west, soft vs pummelling, female vs male), and includes appearances by Blake Fleming from The Mars Volta on drums, Doug Wright from The Dirty Pearls on bass, Will Dahl from Harley's War on guitar and Turtle Jon on tabla.
