A suicidal preacher and a staph infection; We are RUST. We are from Austin, Texas. I met Patrick two years ago when I arrived back in Central Texas after a stint on the East Coast. I was doing some vocals for Unspeakable Things, his instrumental death metal project. They had never had a permanent vocalist and kicked the idea of my addition around while I wrote some words but the whole thing didn't go together. That band will always remain an instrumental machine. Patrick and I decided to start another project, which became RUST, and after a few lineup changes, experimentation with some specific sounds we wanted to involve in our music, and some fungus induced incantations, we were molded into this whole southern sludge thing with a tendency to write the soundtrack for the demise of modern society. We broke through the Austin scene during the 2011 SXSW festival playing a handful of shows and making a statement as one of the more animated live bands in central Texas. Songs like "Lucifer," "Scabstripper," and "Layer of False Prophets" were written to not only tell a story of our response to this shit fucking earth but encompass the whole spectrum of emotions. We dig the idea of divination, possession and incantations of not only light and dark but of moments and history. Nothing is really dead until you have forgotten about it. Nothing is evil or good, but all the same and everything is permitted. We hope that through our music you hear some pain. Some anger. Hatred. Death... We know you have it as well. If it wasn't for music I would of put a bullet through my skull years ago. However, the show must go on and I enjoy becoming the adversary far too much. Music is my Morphine and their aren't enough dirty needles or veins to keep me numb. We[RUST] seek more and will receive. Luis(bass) and Devon(drums) are supplying the hypnotic backbone we need to lay some good guitar tracks down and I like writing stories. I grew up with Dante, Milton, Gibran, Yeats, and others. It's my promise to those heroes of mine to maintain the integrity of literature in music. Patrick Puente(guitar) is a fucking monster and you need to see it in person. On my word, we are a live band. Give us a stage anywhere and we will destroy it. We will take every piece of your life and make you fucking feel. We will leave you with just enough breath in your lungs so after the amplifiers stop ringing you can scream for more. Thank you to our friends. Thank you Counselor. Put me in the torment. Willing I will burn. Let us make music that shatters the universe. I like the idea of burning leaves and vermilion. So I leave her, this earth, deathless and barren. RUST is a broken whore for a muse. Wash her hands. Lick her clean.- Dustin
