 Biography

Kaotik was born Stephen Daniel Pippin on March 21, 1984. For the first few years of his life, music was not of much interest to the young artist due to the fact that he was only exposed to the country and southern rock genres and very little else. That is, until the young age of 7 or so, when he began to notice such popular mainstream artists as M.C. Hammer and Vanilla Ice performing their own catchy and unique blends of hip hop and pop. The music was addictive, enthralling, moving and unforgettable to the young Kaotik. Needless to say, an immediate and enthusiastic fan was born.

In the 2nd grade, Stephen would write and perform his very first rap in front of his fellow classmates and their parents in the school talent show. Unknowingly, this small act would be the stepping stone for one of the most dedicated artist to come out of the genre.

For the next few years, He would put his focus on sports to the forefront, all the while listening to his beloved hip hop (and little else). He would listen to Bone Thugs-n-Harmony in the 6th grade while every other child was studying for the next big test. At times, the only thing you would see him jauting down was a motivational lyric from one of the songs he would continually listen to.

His freshman year, while riding home one day from school with his older sister, the 14 year-old Kaotik stumbled upon an interesting album that was unfamiliar to him. While playing the music, Kaotik began to notice that he had heard the artist before, yet never quite listened to him. The artist's name was 2pac and the album was 'All Eyes On Me' (Book 2). While playing the lp, Kaotik began to notice that much of what the artist was saying related very strongly to the beliefs of his own worldly outlook. This was not the typical hip hop artist that Kaotik was used to hearing. Something was different about this man named 2pac. Something gave him more of a shine than any other Kaotik had heard before. Later on that day, Kaotik was shocked to hear from his father that 2pac was killed in '96 (3 years prior to that day). Never-the-less, Kaotik had found a new influence.

A few months would pass moving Kaotik into his sophomore year at Jackson County High School. By this point, 2pac, Bone Thugs, Notorious BIG and DMX were the only voices in Kaotik's head. Notorious was Kaotik himself for constantly sporting a pair of cheap headphones, an anti-skip cd player and numerous hip hop inspired shirts. He befriended another music enthusiast by the name of Joe West in late '99. Joe was in the midst of putting an R&B group together and was searching for a rapper to give the group a more diverse feel. Kaotik was known for his love of hip hop by both the students and faculty alike, so naturally, he was asked to try out for the part.

In the beginning, Kaotik was troubled by his craft. Writing seem to come naturally, but the art of recording and delivering the words was an area that the artist was finding to be complicated, to say the least. The young rapper can recall the very first time he ever recorded. The title of the track was "Cry 4 Me" and it was mixed to a tape over the Three 6 Mafia instrumental 'The End'. He was shocked. Flabbergasted, even. Despite the bad quality of the recording, there was another, much more troubling reality that the artist had to face... his voice. Having never heard another like it, it came across as an unsettling, unconfident, very inexperienced and downright unappealing part of the track. His dreams were shattered, for the moment.

A couple of days later, the young artist would continually work on new songs. Still discouraged over his recording debut, he seemed rather unscathed by his own views after hearing critique from his cousins and friends. Though, quite unsure as to where his new hobby would be taking him, he couldn't stop writing. This passion seemed to go deep, capsizing any thoughts of football glory and even taking much of his attention away from the local girls.

He would spend the vast majority of his nights quietly writing in his bedroom, only coming out for the occasional bathroom break or food. As the pages of lyrics began to stack up, Kaotik began to see a method to his madness. A path for his life. A journey that would either take him to the top tier of the rap game or leave him humbled and forgotten. Either way, he was hooked. Continually collaborating with other artists of different genres and realizing his own strengths and weaknesses, Kaotik was molding his craft into something original and unseen.

After years of isolation, graduating high school and finding himself having only 2 friends: God and music, the 19 year old artist would drop his debut underground release entited Poem of a Stranger. The album was released in 2005 and after receiving mixed reviews due to it's controversial content, Kaotik was named "One of the Best Underground Hip Hop Artists of 2006" by HipHopLinguistics.com.

Two years later, after the release of his debut album and mixtape, Kaotik released Writin' At Night in the winter of 2007. A project that shows the artist's growth and maturity over the previous couple of years. Having more guest appearances, various producers and an unforgettable ending track ("My Last Ride", known by many to be the defining song of Kaotik's life), the lp goes mostly unnoticed and quickly falls to the background due to a lack of promotion and personal beefs within Kaotik's crew at the time. His sophomore mixtape OBLIVION was also released that year.

A couple more years pass by. After the release of his 3rd mixtape Ballin', Kaotik begins work on a new project entitled The Awakening. Having already recorded enough underground songs by this point to surpass even most vets in the rap game, Kaotik steps his game up. Writing more now than ever before. Even embarking on a collaboration album with his protege and long-time friend Valley.  Both projects began around the same time frame and were each given release dates. None of which were met. Either due to the lack of funds or the simple fact that the projects were simply not quite complete. Kaotik, at one point, had compiled enough songs that were labeled as "unsuited" for the album that he formed them into 3 different mixtapes.

The group album was eventually abandoned after a fall-out between the two rappers in the fall of 2010. However, The Awakening was never abandoned or even stalled in any way. Seemingly evolving just as much as the artist working on the lp, it began to finally mold into what the 27 year old artist had been envisioning since it's genesis. After several push-backs and aggravated messages from weary fans, The Awakening finally appears to be ready to make it's entrance into the world of hip hop. Along with this project comes the promise from the artist himself that the album will not disappoint those of whom have waited on it's arrival for so long. The release date is set for August 2011.
