 Interview
Interview by tosnob

Honey Claws are one of the most eclectic and hard to pidgeonhole groups in the electronic sphere. You should really check out their album if you haven't yet (review here).

Here's my conversation with Thomas, Jon and Traey of Honey Claws:

T.O. Snob: First off, thank you very much for taking the time to speak with us. You just released a new EP, what should fans expect from it?

Thomas and Jon: its pretty indie, good melodies some great timeless tunes. Traey: I also think the songwriting has evolved. Jon's pacing the songs a little differently.

T.O. Snob: What inspires a Honey Claws song?

Thomas, Jon and Traey: defiance, of some sort usually.

T.O. Snob: You're sound is an incredibly eclectic mix. How did it develop?

Thomas: 4 guys with vast overlapping interests make it.. the small circle in the middle is what comes out

T.O. Snob: You've been touring in support of last year's album and now the new EP, but as far as I know you haven't made it up to Toronto, WTF?

Thomas: no shit, and our booking agent is based there... send her an email please...

T.O. Snob: The band is at least partially based in Austin TX. What's it like living in arguably coolest place known to mankind?

Thomas: austin is cool for sure... probably wont live there again for a while... not a bad place to visit, especially during sxsw...

Traey: From someone who lived here and then left. It's definitely a slice of paradise. I miss it everytime I come up here.

T.O. Snob: Speaking of Austin, the band has a pretty hectic schedule around SXSW. What does a festival like this help a band starting out?

Thomas, Traey and Jon: not really much to be honest, this year may be a bit different now that we have a little clout... for beginners, its really not the place. It's like the entire national talent pool gets compressed into this 1 mile radius. We found it very hard last year to rise above the rest of the chaos. Once a band has a following or a profile of some sort, I think this festival offers something totally unique. SXSW gives you the chance to interact with a huge section of the music business. You can play 7 shows, do 5 interviews and interact with all sorts of personalities. Plus, you get to hear all the bands you've missed hearing while you were on the road.

T.O. Snob: When you play something like this do you get a chance to catch any other act? If so who are you looking forward to seeing?

Thomas:metallica Traey:Thao Nguyen

T.O. Snob: If you collaborate with any artist in the world who would it be? Thomas: my homeboy dudu in brasil.. we will be working with him in april. Traey and Jon: Jamie Lidell

T.O. Snob: What is your guiltiest musical pleasure?

Thomas: facial skrew Traey: Appalacian Spring - Aaron Copland

T.O. Snob: Finally, is there anything else you'd like to say to your fans in Toronto?

Thomas: do we have some? hit up apt entertainment and put in a request... its on my list of spots to visit for sure... maybe in the summer though, huh?

T.O. Snob: Thanks again for taking the time to speak with us.
