"As I was working my way through graduate school, I became more interested in reflecting on my experience as a participant in New York City's nightlife" says JP, lead singer of herMajesty. This curiosity fuels the band's first single Operator (NYC), available in January 2010, and acts as an organizing theme for their much anticipated E.P, Images from the Vanishing Night (Bittersweet Records), due out in March 2010.
Elegant, enchanting, aggressive, and suffused with longing, Images from the Vanishing Night is a window into the city after dark. When asked to elaborate, JP says, "I am fascinated by the club scene of the city, and, more specifically, how seemingly disparate needs feed into the experience of clubbing. I mean really, how does anyone reconcile a wish for affiliation, desire, craving, not to mention having a good time and forgetting?" The answer is to create a musical landscape where these different elements collide and flow into each other generating a dreamscape. Produced by Nic Hard (The Church, Aberdeen City, The Bravery), Images from the Vanishing Night is an intoxicating brew of melody and swirling tone that evokes the place where city sirens envelope innocence and temptation. Central to this endeavor is Jerome on guitars, Vanessa (keys), David (bass), and Chip (drums).
Their collaboration results in a sound that amplifies JP's aesthetic as captured in the lyric from Operator (NYC): "4 AM, moving to the sound, splendidly adrift inside this kiss / Lounge queen, you're the one for me, a feather in the breeze... an ocean of a dream".
Shall we dance?
