 Interview
Interview by DeathEyesForKiley
A couple of weeks ago a popped this EP in my cd player and was blown away. It was from a band called Eat Sugar. I enjoyed it so much that I actually made an attempt to contact them, via myspace. To my surprise Greg Poneris(co-founder and drummer) actually wrote me back. After a couple days of messages we set up a interview(I was stoked).

So there I was sitting around when my phone rings. It was Greg calling for his interview. I answer a little unprepared and from there......

Q:What is some general information about the band?
A: Jim(Bass) and I were in a band called, Chalk, for about nine years and when they broke up we formed Eat Sugar. Then we found Aiden(Vocals) and Erin(Synths).

Q:What do you love most about music?
A:It is fun to play. It is just a good time and really fun to play.

Q:Who exactly do you play for? The fans or yourself?
A:For the fans, I think your lying if you say your not playing for people. We just want to get them to dance.

Q:What are some influences when it comes to your music?
A:I think all four of us a fairly similiar, things like Braniac, Sonic Youth, The Faint. I mean you kind of go through different phases.

Q:All of the songs on your EP are really high energy. Do you see your self slowing the tempo down and maybe doing something a little slower.
A: When your playing with a band and people don\'t really know you yet you kind of have to have high energy. You have to kind of punch peopl ein the face to keep there attention.

Q:Where do you end up with your music?
A:What we want is to be able to make a living from it. Don\'t get me wrong millions of dollars would be great but we want creative freedom and not really have to have a label telling us what to do.

Q:What are you listening to right now?
A: The Black Kids and Shitdisco.

Q:For You whats is the best album of 2007
A:Shit Disco- Kingdom of Fear.

Q: Whats your favorite song off your EP?
A: Thats a tough one. My favorite song really keeps switching up, right now it is Black Eye.

Q:So, whats the writing process like?
A: Well the first year before we had Erin and Aiden, Jim and I had written about eight to ten songs and when they came they really just put their own spin on it. But alot of the writing is really just collective but we mostly just wrote it as we played, just jamming around.

Q:If you had to describe you music, like in a label for your music what would you describe it as?
A: Post-punk is just a general term that is just kind of safe. But really dance-punk or disco-punk could go for us to but really that puts you in a mold. Jim\'s phrase on our myspace is probably the best which is "Newer New Wave Meets Soul" but to be safe you can say post-punk.

So after talking to Greg on the phone he sent me an e-mail with some general information about Jim and Aiden in it.

Jim:

Aiden:
Favorite Bands - Too numerous to list; runs the gamut from Adam Ant toHusker Du

Favorite CD of 2007 - “Gray Geysers…Carbon Clouds” by Enon.

Eat Sugar is just a band, with one of the sickest EP\'s I have heard, trying to make it. They seem like great people and they make sick music. So anyone who like The Faint or LCD Soundsystem should give them a listen to, you wont be disappointed. They will literally "Punch you in the Face" with energy.
