It was a depressive and drunken night when Den Saakaldte was born. Alkohol made things clear. Den Saakaldte was born back in May of 2006, under the candlelight and the light of the 5th fullmoon. The project started as a "one man band" project, by Sykelig. It's only purpose? ...To be the way for expressing the paranoia, depression and alkohol influenced thoughts of the individual. Den Saakaldte as a meaning, stands for every person that is not or doesn't feel a part of the "normal" society.
Sykelig recorded the first two songs in Hellas and after that relocated once and for good to Norway. There after experiencing weird situations and after having interesting new points of view in life, Sykelig joined forces with Jormungand-keys (DHG), Seidemann-bass (1349, Pantheon I) and Niklas Kvarforth (Shining). The drums back then were performed by the talented musician, S.Winter (ex-Aeternus, ex-Gehenna).
Den Saakaldte re-recorded in Oslo & Stavanger, in actual basements, and mixed this material that was entitled "Øl, Mørke og Depresjon" and got released as a professional limited edition release, from the Italian label, Eerie Art Records. One month after the release, the band performed for the first time live, by headlining at the Inferno Festival 2008 in Norway, delivering a mystical, bizzare and sick setlist. The band received positive feedback from the fans and the press and the first contacts with Avantgarde Music started.
In the summer of 2008, Jarle aka Uruz takes the place behind the drumkit and Den Saakaldte signs with Avantgarde Music. The title for the debut album gets revealed in the words of "All Hail Pessimism". A title that is rather self-sarcastic, than an actual statement (to whomever it may concern...).
In Autumn of 2008, the split EP Shining/Den Saakaldte gets released by Temple Of Darkness Records. A limited to 1000 copies release,in gatefold and picture disc, with live material from both bands.
With the beginning of the year 2009, Den Saakaldte gets confirmed for headlining the Inferno Festival kick off this time, and for performing at the Party San Open Air Festival in Germany. In February the album "All Hail Pessimism" gets released by Avantgarde Music and Den Saakaldte gets great feedback for their live performance at the Inferno Festival kick off.Pulverised Records is pleased to announce its newest signing: Norwegian black metallers DEN SAAKALDTE. Founded by principal songwriter/guitarist Mikael Sykelig (ex-Gorgoroth session guitar player) and featuring some of the scene's most notorious and prolific musicians, the band released the monumental Øl, Mørke og Depresjon (translation: "Beer, Darkness And Depression") opus in 2008 and remarkably depressive full-length follow-up All Hail Pessimism in early 2009 before joining forces with the Singapore-based label.
Commented Sykelig: "We are proud to announce that DEN SAAKALDTE's new record label is to be Pulverised Records. In our opinion, Pulverised is currently one of the most upcoming labels you can find. They work hard for their bands, and just seeing the names that they have on their roster is enough to know that their goals, and standards, are set very high indeed. We are delighted that our new album will be released on Pulverised, especially at a time when the label is going from strength to strength. We very much look forward to working closely with them."
Added Pulverised Records A&R manager Calvin Chiang: "It was quite a pleasant surprise when the email came in from Mikael wondering if there could be a possibility of us working together for their new album. DEN SAAKALDTE very quickly established their reputation in the scene in just a period of a few years since their formation, and it was obvious that the band had already became a force to be reckoned with. There was not a single doubt about signing DEN SAAKALDTE and an agreement was worked out almost immediately. We have absolute confidence that the band will outdo themselves and create yet another phenomenal follow-up full-length effort, filled with utter anguish and despondency."
DEN SAAKALDTE's forthcoming album and first with Pulverised Records, will be entitled Kapittel II: Faen i Helvete, scheduled for release in the Fall of 2010.
In other DEN SAAKALDTE-related news, the band will be part of the Skandinavisk Pessimisme Omringer Europa Touralongside Troll and Sargeist from March 2010 on. In addition, the band will make an appearance at next year's edition of the Kings Of Black Metal Festival on April 10, 2010 and Barther Metal Open Air on August 20, 2010. Last but not least, the re-release of Øl, Mørke Og Depresjon in digipak CD and gatefold LP format as well as the All Hail Pessimism limited gatefold double LP will be available soon. Stay tuned for details.
