Cosmic Suckerpunch was founded in 2009 (then known as Ghost Robot) when singer / songwriter Ari Welkom met Fabien Hameline, guitarist, on the set of a Hollywood film. Ari and Fabien quickly learned that they shared mutual musical interests, desires, and the innate ability to create a rich, multi-layered sound reminiscent of their most revered influences. They joined forces to form Ghost Robot, and the duo began playing live gigs at coffee houses and small clubs in Los Angeles, where they were briefly accompanied by Hameline’s twin brother, Sebastien, on bass. It was during this time that the stars aligned when Ari and Fabien met percussion powerhouse, Adam Timmerman, who joined the band as they quickly gained momentum and began playing larger venues such as The Viper Room, The Roxy, and the legendary Independent in San Francisco.
In early 2011, the band added bassist and LA native Joshua Gottlieb, and renamed themselves Cosmic Suckerpunch as they began to dominate the Sunset Strip with their regular headline shows. Cosmic Suckerpunch’s unique planetary pleasing sound is owed to the musical influences of Led Zeppelin, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and Nirvana. They released their debut EP last fall, and just recorded their first full length album, and recently opened the prestigious Outside Lands Festival (Muse, Arcade Fire, Phish) In San Francisco's Golden Gate Park in August.
