Interview by dscanland
MusicEmissions: How and when did Burning Heads form as a band?
Pierre (Singer & Guitarist of Burning Heads): In 1992, it's the actual line up
MusicEmissions: Do you feel that you have been accepted in the punk / hardcore world which is mostly made up of North American acts? If not what do you feel is missing?
Pierre: I think Punkrock came from ENGLAND first... Then the north American made it grow in different styles and with a better sound.. But you should not forget the bands of 76 in england... Now what is missing is a real INTERNATIONAL way of spreading the message.
For me PUNK and HC have no frontieres, no flags, I'm just a bit sorry that people from USA or CANADA only look at themselves all the time.. Cause we didn't. Singing in english was a way for us to take part in this real international punk academy. We can play everywhere in EUROPE or ASIA but nobody cares in the US. Maybe there's already too many bands like Burning heads there and maybe they are a lot better.., But I think people in the US are losing a part of it.. You know, we also have MTV and Hot Water in FRANCE... It's not MIDLE AGES ANYMORE, since a long time... I understand that USA is 15 times bigger than fucking France but its not a reason.
MusicEmissions: What do you enjoy more, touring the US or Europe and what was your most memorable tour?
Pierre: No matter where we are. We just enjoy touring. It's just easier to book something here in europe but the conditions are the same. I'd really ove to do something again in USA and CANADA and I think it's coming soon.
MusicEmissions: In High Fidelity fashion, list off you top five albums of all time.
Pierre: Ok, but in no particular order:
1. THE CLASH (everything)
2. BAD BRAINS (first stuff)
3. BAD RELIGION (no control)
4. DAG NASTY (Can I say)
5. AT THE DRIVE IN (in casino out)
MusicEmissions: Now, besides MusicEmissions.com name off your top 5 favorite web sites.
Pierre:
* www.freetekno.org
* www.attac.org
* www.sk8.net
* www.unlogistic.free.fr
* www.sevenhate.com
MusicEmissions: What do you feel will be the ramifications of George Bush being President if any?
Pierre: Think he should ask Mickey, Mini, pluto, and all the disney team for prime ministers And shit.. The cool point should be that there's no make up to do everyday..
It's the big cinema...
MusicEmissions: Your Victory records disc Escape is bloody amazing! Where do you get your inspiration from?
Pierre: The inspiration is always coming from everything around, the bad and the good things. It creates an emotion and we try to translate it in our songs... Reading books, going to movies or to other gigs, watching the news on TV
MusicEmissions: Do you have any cool stories about recording with Nirvana producer Jack Endino?
Pierre: Yes, but privates! It was the second session with Jack. And he wanted to do better than the first one. Think he managed to do so. J E is the right kind of guy. Someone like we ever needed to do so...And now he's a real friend.
MusicEmissions: You cover the Adolescents "No Way" on Escape. Why was this chosen as the obligatory punk cover?
Pierre: May be cuz it was the easiest to cover.... We're so FUCKING LAZY FRENCH BASTARDS!
MusicEmissions: Thanks for your time and good luck with your new album.
Pierre: Thanx a lot for thinking of us. I really hope to come there in USA and CANADA to play and spread the message. We have tons of things to reply...
